TPREL approves plans for ingot and wafer manufacturing business

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has approved the adoption of the photovoltaic (PV) ingot and wafer manufacturing business line. The decision was taken at a board meeting of the company.

Furthermore, investment in the new line will be around Rs 65 billion for 10 GW ingot-wafer manufacturing capacity. The capacity will be built in two phases of 5 GW each. The project is also aligned with national manufacturing priorities, enabling the company to benefit from policy incentives and demand protection mechanisms.

Earlier, in January 2026, TPREL commissioned SJVN Limited’s 1 GW domestic content requirement-compliant solar power project situated in Rajasthan which utilised 2.4 million solar modules, which were manufactured at TP Solar Limited in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
