NTPC Limited awards EPC contract GPS Renewables for ethanol-to-jet SAF plant

GPS Renewables has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by NTPC Limited to establish ethanol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility at NTPC Green Energy Limited’s green hydrogen hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh. The company will serve as the primary contractor and execute the project in partnership with Lummus Technology and Xytel India.

GPS Renewables will manage engineering across hydrogen generation systems, utilities, and offsite infrastructure, along with procurement, construction, start-up, and commissioning. Lummus Technology will provide the process technology licence and basic engineering design, while Xytel India will undertake detailed engineering for the core process systems.

The plant is designed to produce 1,800 tonnes per annum of  SAFusing ethanol derived from carbon dioxide. This will include ethanol-to-ethylene conversion, olefin oligomerisation and hydroprocessing to generate SAF and renewable diesel. Furthermore, GPS Renewables’ scope of work  extends until March 2029, covering full project execution, commissioning, and an additional one-year operational period after commissioning.
