Grenergy signs financial tolling agreement for BESS of Escuderos hybrid project

Grenergy has signed a 12-year financial tolling agreement for the storage system of its Escuderos hybrid project. The project is located in Castilla-La Mancha in Spain. The project comprises 200 MW solar PV with 680 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The BESS construction for the project is expected to commence in 2026 with its commissioning expected in 2027.

The tolling agreement will take effect in July 2028, with Grenergy handling battery operations and trading. Furthermore, the agreement complements a 12-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Galp in 2020. Reportedly, this is the company’s second financial tolling agreement in Spain.

In March 2026, Grenergy secured capacity contracts for four BESS projects in the UK with a combined capacity of 190 MW/760 MWh. The contracts were awarded in the latest auction conducted by NESO, the country’s energy system operator, and will remain in effect for 15 years. The projects include two hybrid projects and two standalone BESS projects, namely Scalm Park, Spring Lane, Buxton Road, and Fibden Farm.
