McDonald’s and Axpo sign solar PPA in Spain

Axpo and McDonald’s have entered into a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the supply of up to 83 GWh of solar energy annually. The electricity will be sourced from Axpo’s newly developed solar complex located in the municipalities of Villadangos del Páramo and Cimanes del Tejar, in the northwestern province of León. It is a 200 MWp facility consisting of four photovoltaic plants, each with a capacity of 50 MWp.

In August 2025, Axpo brought its 24.8 MW Lålax onshore wind project in Finland into operation. The Lålax wind farm, situated in the municipality of Vörå in western Ostrobothnia, features four Vestas turbines of 6.2 MW each with a hub height of 134 metres. The project is expected to generate about 70 GWh of electricity annually. The  Axpo wind team oversaw the project’s development and construction.

In July 2025, Axpo and EDP Renewables entered into a long-term agreement to optimise a 60 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Poland. Under the arrangement, Axpo was responsible for the commercial management and market optimisation of the asset. The agreement is structured around a floor price combined with a revenue-sharing mechanism.
