Harpreet Singh’s professional journey has been closely connected with the power transmission and distribution industry. Over the years, he has worked extensively in the field of cable accessories, particularly medium and high voltage cable joints, terminations and connection systems. “I am currently leading COMPAQ International, where we focus on the manufacturing, supply and installation of power cable accessories to utilities, engineering, procurement and construction companies, and infrastructure projects across many countries. Throughout my career, I have been involved not only in business development but also in understanding the technical and practical aspects of how electrical networks operate in real-world conditions,” he says.
“Electricity networks are essential for economic growth and everyday life, and even small components like cable joints and terminations play a very important role in ensuring a reliable power supply. Being able to contribute to projects that strengthen power networks or support renewable energy development is very satisfying. I also enjoy interacting with engineers, project teams and utilities because every project brings new challenges and learning,” he notes.
According to Singh, in most solar power projects, power cables and cable accessories typically account for around 4-6 per cent of the total project cost, depending on the plant capacity, layout and grid connection distance. While this percentage is relatively small compared to major components such as solar modules, inverters and mounting structures, cables and accessories play a vital role in ensuring reliable and efficient transmission of electricity throughout the system. “Any failure in these components can lead to power losses or operational disruptions. As solar projects continue to grow in scale and complexity, the focus on high quality cable systems and reliable accessories will become even more important,” he adds.
Singh prefers a practical and collaborative management approach and believes that strong teams are built through trust, open communication and shared responsibility. “At the same time, I always emphasise discipline in quality and technical standards because in our industry, reliability is key. I try to create an environment where people feel encouraged to share ideas and take ownership of their work,” he says.
In his free time, Singh enjoys reading about new developments in technology, infrastructure and global business. He also enjoys travelling as it allows him to understand different markets and cultures.
