Sun Drops Energia inks 445 MW/890 MWh BESPA with GUVNL

Sun Drops Energia Limited, a subsidiary of KPI Green Energy Limited, has inked a battery energy storage purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The agreement is for the development of a 445 MW/890 MWh self-owned IPP standalone battery energy storage system (BESS). Under the agreement, Sun Drops Energia will develop, own, and operate the BESS with a cumulative capacity of 445 MW/890 MWh at multiple locations in Gujarat.

Furthermore, the contracted battery energy storage capacity will be made available to GUVNL on a long-term basis. The BESPA was executed following a tariff-based competitive bidding process conducted by GUVNL for the procurement of standalone BESS capacity under Phase-VII. The project will be supported by viability gap funding provided through the power system development fund. The company received a letter of intent for the project from GUVNL earlier in January 2026.

Earlier in January 2026, KPI Green Energy Limited began generating and supplying power from its 200 MWac/240 MWdc grid-connected solar power project in Khavda.
