Masdar inks PPA for Quipungo solar project in Angola

Masdar has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 150 MW solar project in Angola. The agreement secures long-term electricity offtake for the Quipungo solar project, which is located in Huila province in southern Angola. The PPA was signed with the Rede Nacional de Transporte de Electricidade (RNT-EP), the state owned electricity-transmission company.

The Quipungo project represents the first contracted phase of Project Royal Sable, a planned 500 MW multi-site solar programme spread across three locations. The Quipungo project is the initial commercial anchor for the broader Project Royal Sable portfolio. Furthermore, the programme is expected to strengthen power supply in Angola’s southern grid. Once fully developed, it is anticipated to provide clean electricity to approximately 300,000 homes.

In December 2025, Masdar signed a PPA to develop a 200 MW floating solar project at the Chereh dam in Pahang, Malaysia, under the Large Scale Solar Cycle 5+ programme. The project, reportedly awarded at the lowest tariff in the floating solar category, will be implemented by a consortium led by Masdar, along with Citaglobal and Tiza Global, and the agreement has been executed with Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s national utility company.
