The Power Grid Corporation of India (Powergrid) has emerged as the winner in REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited’s (RECPDCL) auction to establish an interstate transmission system. The project will facilitate the integration of 250 MW of renewable energy at Davangere and 2.75 GW at Bellary in Karnataka.
The scope of work covers enhancing the transformation capacity at the Davangere pooling station through the installation of two 1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV inter-connecting transformers (ICTs) (6th and 7th). This encompasses two 765/400 kV, 1,500 MVA ICTs along with two 765 kV ICT bays and two 400 kV ICT bays. Additionally, one set of a 400 kV bus sectionaliser will be installed.
Furthermore, the scope also requires Powergrid to install four 220 kV line bays and one 400 kV line bay at the Davangere pooling station to connect dedicated transmission lines from renewable energy projects. In addition, the Bellary pooling station will be strengthened with 400/220 kV inter-connecting transformers totalling 6 × 500 MVA.
Additionally, the project’s scheduled commercial operation date is 24 months from the transfer of the special-purpose vehicle. The tender for the project was floated earlier in September 2025.
