BSPGCL commissions first phase of 301 MW/495 MWh solar plus storage project

Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has commissioned the first phase of the 301 MW/495 MWh solar plus storage project in Bihar. The first phase comprises a 185 MW grid-connected solar power capacity integrated with a 254 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), representing an investment of Rs 18.1 billion.  The BESS for this phase was supplied by Hithium Energy Storage and consists of 82 integrated LiFePO4 liquid-cooling containers, each with a storage capacity of 3.44 MWh.

Furthermore, the second phase consists of the development of a 116 MWac solar plant integrated with a 241 MWh BESS. It will represent an investment of Rs 10.55 billion. Additionally, Larsen & Toubro’s renewables unit secured the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for both phases of the solar plus storage project.

Earlier in December 2025, BSPGCL shortlisted GreenCo Energies Private Limited and Sun Petrochemicals Private Limited to develop 2.12 GW of pumped storage power projects.
