Vena Energy and CATL join forces for Indonesia–Singapore renewable project

Vena Energy has progressed its Indonesia–Singapore renewable energy project by signing a framework supply agreement with battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) for the project planned in the Riau Islands. Under the agreement, Vena Energy’s Indonesian subsidiary,  PT Infrastruktur Terbarukan Sedaya, will procure CATL’s EnerX battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a capacity of up to 4,000 MWh.

The BESS will be produced at CATL’s new manufacturing facility in Karawang, West Java, which will contribute to employment generation in the region. The Indonesia–Singapore renewable energy project will include over 2 GWp of solar capacity, with the BESS storing daytime generation for delivery through a subsea cable that will act as a transmission interconnector to export clean energy to Singapore.

This project received conditional approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority in September 2024, and is intended to supply more than 2.6 TWh of renewable electricity annually to consumers in Singapore. Additionally, it demonstrates the role of cross-border clean energy links in supporting regional economic activity and advancing renewable power deployment.
