NLC India bags $100 million green loan from Sumitomo Mitsui

NLC India Limited has bagged a green loan of approximately $100 million from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. The loan has been secured under a recently inked external commercial borrowing framework.

The funding will be directed towards capital expenditure for renewable energy projects undertaken by NLC India Renewables, the subsidiary of NLC India. The aim is to improve margins and advance the company’s clean energy efforts.  Moreover, the investment aligns with the company’s Corporate Plan 2030, which targets the addition of 10 GW of renewable energy capacity and raising its green share to 50 per cent by 2030.

In July 2025, NLC India Limited announced plans to invest Rs 1.25 trillion by 2030 to expand its total power generation capacity from the current 6.7 GW to 20 GW.

Furthermore, in June 2025, NLC India Limited announced that NLC India Renewables Limited received a letter of award from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited for developing three standalone battery energy storage system projects.
