The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation (TNGECL) has issued a tender to set up seven standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) totalling 375 MW/1,500 MWh. These projects will be set up across different sites in Tamil Nadu. The substations in the Coimbatore operation circle and proposed BESS capacity for the substations are: Anaikadavu substation (400/230 kV – 230 kV) (400 MWh), Karamadai substation (400/230 kV – 230 kV) (300 MWh), and Palladam substation (230/110 kV – 110 kV) (100 MWh).
Furthermore, in the Trichy operation circle, the substations and the proposed BESS capacity for them are the Thatchankurichi substation (230/110 kV – 110 kV) (200 MWh) and the Thiruvarur substation (230/110 kV – 110 kV) (200 MWh). Madurai operation circle has the Thappagundu substation (400/110 kV – 110 kV) with proposed BESS capacity of 200 MWh, while Tirunelveli operation circle has the N. Subbaiahpuram substation (110/11 kV) with proposed BESS capacity of 100 MWh.
According to the tender guidelines, the BESS projects will be developed by the selected developers on a build-own-operate basis. The projects will be designed for 1.5 cycles of charging and discharging per day. Additionally, TNGECL will ink a battery energy storage purchase agreement with the selected developer.
Furthermore, bidders must pay a bid processing fee of Rs 1.5 million. They are also required to submit Rs 200,000 per MW of the quoted capacity as an earnest money deposit. The deadline for submitting bids is December 22, 2025.
