Levanta Renewables has obtained approval to develop a solar and storage project in the Visayas region under the Philippines’ fourth green energy auction (GEA-4). The project, spanning 155 hectares, comprises a 166 MWp ground-mounted solar project integrated with a battery energy storage system. With a planned capacity of 175 MWac and an estimated average capacity factor of 43 per cent, the project represents a total investment of approximately PHP 5 billion.
Once operational, the project is expected to contribute to the Philippines’ renewable energy capacity by reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. It is projected to offset more than 200,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Furthermore, it is expected to generate tax revenues, and contribute to local economic development by generating employment opportunities and supporting long-term community initiatives through government-mandated ER 1-94 programmes.
Levanta Renewables is an Actis-backed renewable energy platform in Southeast Asia, that develops, finances, constructs, operates and maintains renewable energy projects. Headquartered in Singapore, the company’s operations span across Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Furthermore, the company targets to achieve an operating capacity of 1.5 GW by 2028.
