Oman inks PPA for 500 MW solar-plus-storage project

Nama Power and Water Procurement has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a consortium for the development of the Ibri III Solar Independent Power Project in Oman. The project comprises a 500 MW utility-scale solar plant, integrated with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The consortium that will develop the project includes Masdar, OQ Alternative Energy, Al Khadra Partners, and Korea Midland Power Co. Ltd.

Additionally, the scope of the project covers design, construction, financing, ownership, operation, and maintenance. Once operational, the project is expected to supply electricity to about 33,000 households, and offset nearly 505,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Furthermore, it is a part of Oman’s energy diversification goals under Vision 2040, including the target of 30 per cent of electricity generation from renewable sources by 2030.

In August 2025, Sungrow Hydrogen signed a MoU with United Engineering Services to explore setting up an electrolyser manufacturing facility in Oman, which will also manufacture and assemble gas separation and purification systems along with related infrastructure. The facility is intended to serve domestic demand as well as export markets.
