SJVN announces auction results for 375 MW BESS projects in Uttar Pradesh

SJVN Limited has announced the auction results for its 375 MW/1,500 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) tender in Uttar Pradesh. Patel Infrastructure has been awarded 187.5 MW/750 MWh at a tariff of Rs 359,000 per MW per month. Enerica Infra 3 (EnerGrid) secured 187.5 MW/750 MWh at a tariff of Rs 359,999 per MW per month. The tender was floated in February 2025.

Viability gap funding support of up to Rs 2.7 million per MWh or 30 per cent of the capital cost, whichever is lower, will be provided. The BESS projects will be developed under a build-own-operate model. Moreover, the BESS projects must be made available for one operational cycle of four hours daily and maintain a minimum monthly availability of 95 per cent with an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85 per cent. The developers are required to  design, finance, engineer, procure, construct, operate and maintain the BESS project. Additionally, they must comply with grid standards, safety norms, and performance benchmarks. They must also use commercially established and operational technologies compliant with the guidelines specified in the codes and standards to minimise technological risks.

Furthermore, the developers must ensure commissioning within 18 months of signing the battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA). SJVN will enter into a 20-year BESPA with the developers. The projects will be connected to the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited’s 400 kV/220 kV Garautha substation in Jhansi district and integrated into the state transmission utility network, following connectivity approval.
