Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and DESRI have inked a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Dry Creek energy storage project. The project is a 160 MW/640 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) situated in Sacramento County. SMUD and DESRI have jointly worked on the project.
The system will be charged using renewable energy and other clean sources available on SMUD’s grid. Furthermore, it will support the integration of sustainable power and enhance grid reliability. SMUD is a community-owned, not-for-profit electric service provider. It has been providing reliable electricity to Sacramento County for over 75 years.
Earlier in June 2025, DESRI achieved financial notice to proceed, and it has commenced construction of the Catclaw solar and storage project situated in Buckeye, Arizona. The Catclaw project is a 205 MWac solar facility with a 1,000 MWh storage system. DESRI purchased the project from Avantus in 2024.
