NLC India Limited has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Limited, has received a letter of award (LoA) from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited for developing three standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The cumulative capacity of these projects will be 250 MW/500 MWh, with provision for two complete charging and discharging cycles to meet on-demand power requirements.
The projects will be developed under a build-own-operate model and will be supported through viability gap funding. Moreover, the project was secured through a competitive bidding process. Furthermore, this reportedly marks the first large-scale BESS project to be undertaken by the NLC India.
In May 2025, NLC India Limited, through its subsidiary NLC India Renewables Limited, signed a power purchase agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited for an 810 MW solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
