EnergyAustralia has partnered with EDF power solutions Australia to co-develop and deliver the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project (LLPHES) in Lithgow. The LLPHES Project has the capability to produce 385 MW of reliable, dispatchable energy once it is developed. The energy produced will be sufficient to supply over 250,000 homes in New South Wales for up to eight hours.
EnergyAustralia and EDF power solutions Australia have created a joint venture for the development of the project. Together, the two companies own 100 per cent of the Project, with EDF Australia having acquired a 75 per cent equity interest. Furthermore, EnergyAustralia will retain first rights to the power offtake for LLPHES. The final investment decision for the project is targeted for late 2026.
Earlier in February 2025, EnergyAustralia commenced construction for the 350 MW Wooreen Energy Storage System in the Latrobe Valley. The system is expected to be completed in 2027. The investment in the project exceeds $700 million, and it is capable of providing vital grid stability to local communities and businesses.
