NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Opera Energy Private Limited have emerged as successful bidders in NHPC Limited’s tender for standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Kerala. The total tendered capacity was 125 MW/500 MWh, connected to the intrastate transmission system.
NGEL won two separate projects under this tender, securing a cumulative capacity of 80 MW/320 MWh. One project involves the development of a 40 MW/160 MWh BESS at the Pothencode substation, won at a tariff of Rs 457,000 per MW per month. The second project involves the development of 40 MW/160 MWh at the Sreekantapuram substation, won at a tariff of Rs 434,000 per MW per month.
Additionally, Opera Energy was awarded a 15 MW/60 MWh project at a tariff of Rs 438,000 per MW per month. These BESS projects are intended to support grid operations and address power demand fluctuations in the state.
