BW ESS secures financing for 331 MWh BESS project in UK

BW ESS has secured debt financing for the 100 MW/331 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Bramley, Hampshire, in UK. Under this agreement, the Australian bank Westpac and UOB will contribute 50 per cent each to the debt facility.

The transaction follows a competitive financing process. The BESS project benefits from a market-first seven-year tolling agreement with Shell Energy Europe. It was inaugurated in February 2025.

BW ESS is a global energy storage owner and operator active in UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, and Sweden. It has over 500 MWh of operational BESS projects, over 2.5 GWh of projects under construction, and a development pipeline of about 7.5 GW.

Earlier in April 2025, BW ESS secured a SEK 628 million green loan agreement with Nordea Bank for its 211 MW/211 MWh portfolio of operational battery storage assets in Sweden. The assets are owned in partnership with Ingrid Capacity.
