JSW Neo Energy Limited has entered into a power procurement agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh of pumped hydro storage projects (PHSPs). The projects will be located in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. Under the agreement terms, JSW will provide energy storage capacity over a 40-year period. The fixed capacity charge has been set at Rs 7.72 million per MW annually.
The PHSPs will allow for a scheduled discharge of 8 hours daily, with a maximum continuous discharge time of 6 hours. The projects are expected to be commissioned within the next 6 years. Following this deal, the company’s total committed energy storage capacity has reached 28.3 GWh. This includes 26.4 GWh from PHSPs. Additionally, the company is aiming to achieve 40 GWh of total energy storage capacity by 2030.
In February 2025, JSW Energy secured a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage project in Kerala from Solar Energy Corporation of India at a tariff of Rs 441,000 per MW per month.
