JSL Super Steel Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jindal Stainless Limited, has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Sunsure Energy to procure 11 MW of solar energy for its production facility in Uttar Pradesh. The clean power will be sourced from Sunsure’s 49 MWp solar project located in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh. This arrangement is expected to replace nearly 40 per cent of JSL Super Steel’s conventional energy usage with renewable power.
As part of the agreement, JSL Super Steel will receive 16.5 million units of clean energy annually. This transition will allow the company to offset approximately 12 million kgs of carbon emissions every year.
JSL Super Steel specialises in manufacturing stainless steel long products such as wire rods and rebar, with an annual rolling capacity of 160,000 tonnes. The company has also outlined a short-term goal of cutting its carbon emissions by 50 per cent by the year 2035, with this solar energy integration representing a step toward that target.
