The UK Government has awarded the development consent order to the Rampion 2 offshore wind farm. The project is situated off the Sussex coast. This approval is part of the UK government’s Plan for Change. It will secure 1.2 GW of clean, homegrown power for British families and businesses.
Project development is being led by RWE, which owns 50.1 per cent stake in the project. Other partners include a Macquarie-led consortium and Enbridge owning 25 per cent and 24.9 per cent share in the wind farm, respectively. Furthermore, the wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of this decade.
UK’s wind energy sector has been rapidly expanding. Earlier in February 2025, the UK government launched a new investment scheme to boost clean energy manufacturing in the country. The scheme is called Clean Industry Bonus and offers financial support to offshore wind developers that prioritise investment in the most needed areas. The initiative will incentivise developers who construct more sustainable and low-carbon factories.
