NHPC floats tender for 1,200 MW solar projects with 2,400 MWh ESS

NHPC Limited has issued a request for selection to develop 1,200 MW of interstate transmission system-connected solar projects with an integrated 600 MW/2,400 MWh energy storage system (ESS) at any location in India. The tender includes a greenshoe option for an additional 1,200 MW. 

According to the tender guidelines, the bidders are required to submit a bid security of Rs 942,000 per MW of installed solar capacity and Rs 1.3 million per MW of ESS capacity. The minimum project size is set at 50 MW, with an ESS component of at least 25 MW/100 MWh. While the total bid capacity cannot exceed 600 MW, with a minimum ESS requirement of 300 MW/1,200 MWh, unless utilising the greenshoe option. NHPC Limited will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement with the selected bidders. The deadline for bid submission is April 24, 2025.

According to the eligibility criteria, the bidders must demonstrate a net worth higher than the bid security and have an annual turnover of at least Rs 4.7 million per MW of solar capacity and Rs 6.8 million per MW of ESS capacity. Furthermore, the bidders must use commercially established and operational technologies for timely project commissioning and risk mitigation. Only cells and modules listed in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers can be used. Additionally, developers with commissioned or under-construction solar projects with untied capacity are eligible to participate in the tender. Multiple project locations are permitted as long as they meet the minimum capacity criteria.
