The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult and the Japanese Floating Wind Technology Research Association (FLOWRA) have inked a MoU to reduce development risks and costs of floating offshore wind. This agreement between the two companies coincides with cooperation between the UK and Japanese Governments to promote offshore wind deployment in both countries.
Furthermore, floating offshore wind is expected to play a crucial role in the future energy mix of both countries. This collaboration will create several economic benefits and jobs. Additionally, it will support emissions reduction efforts in both countries.
In December 2024, JERA, Green Power Investment Co., Ltd., and Tohoku Electric Power collaborated to form a consortium led by JERA. The consortium has been selected to operate an offshore wind power project in the Sea of Japan, off the southern coast of Aomori Prefecture.
