SJVN Limited has signed an MoU with the Government of Chhattisgarh and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) to develop a 1,800 MW pumped hydro storage project (PHSP) in the Balrampur district. The total investment for the project is estimated at Rs 95 billion, with significant potential to enhance energy storage capacity and grid stability in the region.
The project is anticipated to create employment opportunities for around 5,000 people during its development phase, contributing to local economic growth. Additionally, the off-stream closed-loop project at Kotpali is expected to generate approximately 3,967 million units of energy annually.
Earlier this month, SJVN Limited awarded contracts for 448 MW of inter-state transmission system-connected firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects to ReNew Solar Power, EG Energy Development, Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon, Serentica Renewables India, and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, as part of its 1,200 MW auction issued in July 2024, which also included a greenshoe option for an additional 1,200 MW.
