TP Solar Limited, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power and a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has inaugurated a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The facility is India’s largest single-location solar manufacturing plant, incorporating advanced TOPCon and Mono PERC technology.
The plant will produce high-efficiency solar cells and modules, designed to support the country’s increasing demand for renewable energy. Additionally, it is expected to create employment opportunities, with 80 per cent of the workforce comprising women. Moreover, the solar cells and modules produced in Tirunelveli will initially be utilised for the company’s ongoing projects, ensuring a stable supply chain.
In January 2025, TPREL commissioned a 431 MW DC solar project in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, spanning 1,635.63 acres and featuring single-axis trackers with bi-facial modules to enhance efficiency by over 15 per cent, incorporating 560 Wp and 565 Wp bifacial glass-to-glass modules.
