EIB grants €225 million to Prologis for renewable energy projects in Europe

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a €225 million framework loan to Prologis to facilitate its plan for producing electricity from low-carbon sources. This will be achieved by installing solar panels on the roofs of Prologis’ logistics centers, complemented by battery storage systems. The project will be implemented across multiple locations in Western and Central Europe.

Furthermore, the rooftop solar systems will help reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy security during potential blackouts, and enable surplus energy to be stored or sold to the grid. The solar and battery storage projects will be implemented in several countries, including Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Poland. These projects are expected to be finalised by 2026.

Earlier this month, EIB signed a €1 billion loan agreement with Naturgy to fund new solar and onshore wind power plants in Spain and to convert existing facilities into hybrid plants. In October 2024, the EIB and Intesa Sanpaolo launched an initiative to unlock up to €8 billion in investments for the European wind sector.
