Equinix and CleanMax sign PPA for 33 MW captive renewable power plant in Maharashtra

Equinix, Inc. has signed its first power purchase agreement (PPA) in India with CleanMax to develop a 33 MW captive power plant in Maharashtra. The plant will feature 26.4 MWp of solar and 6.6 MW of wind capacity and is set to begin phased operations in 2025.

The agreement aligns with Equinix’s sustainability strategy, aiming to support the company’s growing energy demands as data center usage rises due to increased AI adoption. The renewable energy generated will fully cover Equinix’s International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in Mumbai. This PPA is part of Equinix’s global renewable energy efforts, adding to a portfolio that includes recent PPAs in Australia and Singapore.

In 2024, Equinix invested $77.5 million in energy efficiency projects, reducing its global energy consumption by 66,862 MWh and improving its Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by 8.8 per cent.
