Ohmium to supply electrolyser for 300 MW floating green ammonia plant

Ohmium International signed a term sheet with SwitcH2 BV, a renewable energy joint venture that includes BW Offshore. As part of this agreement, Ohmium will develop PEM electrolyser systems for an innovative 300 MW offshore floating green hydrogen and ammonia synthesis project led by SwitcH2. Ohmium will supply 300 MW of PEM electrolyser solutions, which will be installed on SwitcH2’s 268-metre FPSO vessel.

Additionally, Ohmium’s PEM electrolysers will use solar and wind energy, along with treated seawater, to produce green hydrogen, which will then be fed into an onboard ammonia synthesis unit. The green ammonia will be offloaded to ammonia carriers for transportation to off-takers. Moreover, with backing from the Dutch government and approval in principle from the Norwegian certification agency DNV, the project expects to begin green ammonia production by 2029.

Earlier this year, Ohmium inaugurated a new gigafactory in India. Spanning 14,000 square metres, the facility will produce 2 GW of fully assembled and tested electrolyzer systems. This marks Ohmium’s second manufacturing plant in India and consolidates key functions such as manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, testing, warehousing, and shipping under one roof.
