The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has announced the winners of its 1,650 MW wind-solar auction. JSW Neo Energy (JSW Energy), Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), Avaada Energy, and Juniper Green Energy have been selected to supply wind-solar hybrid power on a long-term basis from grid-connected intrastate projects.
JSW Neo secured a total of 600 MW of which 400 MW is under the greenshoe option. Tata Power secured a total 400 MW including 200 MW greenshoe option and Avaada Energy was awarded 500 MW (13 MW plus 487 MW greenshoe). Juniper Green secured 150 MW with half of it being under the greenshoe option. All the bids were won at a tariff of Rs 3.60 per kWh. Initially floated in July 2024 for 1,150 MW, the capacity was later increased to 1,650 MW under the greenshoe option.
In October 2024, MSEDCL entered into an energy storage facility agreement (ESFA) with the JSW Energy PSP Two Limited, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, for a 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh pumped hydro energy storage project.
In September 2024, TPREL secured a letter of award (LoA) from MSEDCL for the development of a 400 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Maharashtra.
