Welspun New Energy, a subsidiary of Welspun Group has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Maharashtra government for the development of the Dhammi Pumped Hydro project in Pune and Raigad districts in Maharashtra. It is a 1.2 GW pumped hydroelectric storage project and is estimated to cost Rs 50 billion. The estimated timeline of completion is 6 to 7 years.
In September 2024, the Maharashtra government signed an MoU with THDC India Limited for harnessing energy from six pumped storage projects (PSPs) in Maharashtra. Further, they also allocated Rs 100 billion for the Chief Minister’s Solar Agriculture Feeder Program 2.0. In August 2024, they signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Power to set up two PSPs.
