Hindustan Zinc Limited and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop new variants of zinc materials and promote the commercialisation of zinc-based batteries.
The primary objective of the partnership is to create solutions that improve the performance and reliability of zinc-based batteries. This will be accomplished through the research and development of zinc alloys as anodes for zinc ion and zinc air batteries, development of electrolytes for high-performance zinc alloy anodes, and designing and developing chemical processes for recycling zinc metal-based batteries.
JNCASR is an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in Bengaluru.
In July 2024, Hindustan Zinc had begun integrating 180 MW solar energy from Serentica Renewables’ Bikaner project in Rajasthan. In the same month, they also launched EcoZen, Asia’s first low carbon green zinc.
