India and Japan sign first agreement on export of green ammonia

India and Japan have signed an agreement for the export of green ammonia. The Heads of Terms (HoT) agreement was signed between Sembcorp Industries, Sojitz Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power Co., and NYK Line. This is the first collaboration in the green ammonia sector between India, Singapore and Japan.

The production of green ammonia in India will be led by Sembcorp Industries using renewable energy resources. In Japan, Kyushu Electric Power Co. will replace a part of the coal used in thermal production with green ammonia. The process between the ammonia producer and the buyer will be helped by Sojitz Corporation. The maritime transportation will be directed by NYK Line.

Speaking at the signing event, Pralhad Joshi announced that presently, a tender for 0.75 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia is active. Additionally, tenders of 0.45 million tonnes per annum have also been floated.
