Tesla and Intersect Power have signed a contract to supply 15.3 GWh of Tesla’s Megapack battery energy storage systems for Intersect Power’s solar + storage project portfolio . By the end of 2027, Intersect Power is expected to deploy 10 GWh of large-scale energy storage.
Furthermore, Intersect Power plans to use over half of the new Megapacks order for four projects in California and Texas, which are anticipated to be operational by the end of 2027.. Reportedly, the remaining Megapacks will support Intersect Power’s future solar and storage facilities, expected to be operational between 2028 and 2030.
Intersect Power currently operates 2.4 GWh of Tesla Megapacks, with 1 GWh at the Oberon facility and 448 MWh at the Athos III facility in California. Moreover,1 GWh of Megapacks is being installed at the Radian and Lumina facilities in Texas and will be fully operational this year.The new Megapacks for Intersect Power will be delivered in 2025 and 2026 from Tesla’s factory in Lathrop, California.
In July 2024, Intersect Power secured $837 million through two separate transactions to finance the construction and operation of three standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Texas. This financing includes portfolio-level construction debt, tax equity, and term debt, provided by leading industry partners.
