The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued amended guidelines for procurement of green ammonia production for component II under Mode 2A of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). Tranche I, Mode 2A which caters to the requirements of the fertiliser sector is gaining traction. To meet the rising demand for green ammonia in the fertiliser sector, the allocation under the Mode 2A Scheme has been increased by 200,000 tonnes per annum. Consequently, the existing allocation has been raised from 550,000 tonnes per annum to 750,000 tonnes per annum.
The MNRE is implementing the NGHM with a target to achieve production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen in the country by the year 2030. The mission, with an outlay of Rs 197.44 billion up to fiscal year 2029-30, will contribute to India’s goal to become self-reliant through green energy and serve as an inspiration for the global clean energy transition.
In June 2024, Solar Energy Corporation of India issued a request for proposals for manufacturing and delivery of green ammonia in India.
