Asahi India Glass Limited (AIS), a leading glass manufacturer in India, has signed a 20-year offtake agreement with INOX Air Products (INOXAP), a leading producer of industrial and medical gases. This agreement is for the supply of green hydrogen to AIS’s new float glass facility in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.
The plant is designed to produce up to 190 tonnes of green hydrogen annually through electrolysis. Expected to be operational by July 2024, the plant will be powered entirely by solar energy. INOXAP is tasked with the design, engineering, installation, and operation of the system, ensuring a consistent 20-year supply of green hydrogen to the AIS facility.
In the initial phase, AIS will receive 95 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Under the agreement, AIS will invest in a solar power plant that will provide renewable energy to produce green hydrogen, which will be used in the float glass manufacturing process at AIS. The new plant in Soniyana aims to meet 94 per cent of its energy needs through clean sources. The project is expected to lower carbon emissions by about 1,250 metric tonnes each year, and by a total of 25,000 metric tonnes over the course of 20 years.
