NTPC declares winners of its 1 GW wind-solar hybrid auction

Results for NTPC Limited’s auction to develop 1,000 MW of inter-state transmission system connected wind-solar hybrid power projects, tranche V, have been announced. The tender for the project was issued in February 2024. The projects will be located anywhere in India. Sprng Energy and AmpIn Energy Transition, and Juniper Green Energy have won 150 MW each, by quoting Rs 3.41 per kWh, Rs 3.42 per kWh, and Rs 3.43 per kWh, respectively. While ReNew and Avaada Energy have won 300 MW and 250 MW by quoting Rs 3.44 per kWh and Rs 3.47 per kWh, respectively.

At least one of the project’s resources (wind or solar) must have a rated power capacity equivalent to or exceeding 33 per cent of the total contracted capacity. The developers of the project can choose to propose hybrid projects with or without an energy storage system. Projects that are either completed or in the process of being completed, without a long-term power purchase agreement with any agency, and those that sell hybrid power on a merchant or short-term basis will also be given consideration for the tender. Furthermore, NTPC has mandated the use of indigenously manufactured solar modules listed in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers. Additionally, under the tender, only type-certified wind-turbine models issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, listed in Revised list of Models and Manufacturers will be allowed.
