Maharashtra Discom aims for installation of 3 million residential rooftop solar systems

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has outlined initiatives to deploy 3 million rooftop solar systems on residences across the state as part of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana. The state has established targets on a district or region basis and instructed all field offices to prioritise technical feasibility approvals and meter testing.

MSEDCL has additionally encouraged the promotion of awareness among potential consumers through camps, advertisements, and social media. The targets for rooftop solar systems in various regions are as follows: Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar region – 407,500; Konkan region – 934,600; Nagpur region – 892,500; and Pune region – 765,400. The chosen regions encompass 47 circles within 16 zones, encompassing around 22.43 million residential consumers.

In August 2023, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited signed power purchase agreements for a 200 MW and 150 MW solar project with MSEDCL in the state.

In April 2023, Avaada Energy won the 560 MW (DC) solar project at a tariff of Rs 2.88 per kWh in an e-reverse auction conducted by MSEDCL.
