Torrent Power inaugurates four clean energy projects

The Indian Prime Minister (PM) has laid the foundation stone for Torrent Power Limited’s (TPL) four clean energy projects in Uttar Pradesh. With a total investment of approximately Rs 250 billion, the projects comprise a 150 MW solar power plant in the Lalitpur district of the Bundelkhkand region of Uttar Pradesh, two pumped storage hydro projects with a combined capacity of 4.15 GW in the Sonbhadra district, and a pilot green hydrogen manufacturing facility in Gorakhpur. The Gorakhpur project involves the production of green hydrogen, which will then be mixed with the gas distribution network that is currently being developed by Torrent Gas.

It is anticipated that the four projects will provide around 8,000 individuals with direct and indirect job opportunities in the state. Torrent Group entered a MoU with the Uttar Pradesh state government for these projects at the UP Global Investors Summit 2023.

Recently, in January 2024, TPL planned a comprehensive investment of Rs 473.5 billion encompassing renewable energy, green hydrogen, and power distribution.

In July 2023, TPL and Siemens collaborated to set up electric vehicle charging stations.

In May 2023, Suzlon Group announced that it received an order for its new 3 MW series wind turbines to establish a 300 MW wind power project for TPL.
