Colonel Rohit Dev is managing director at Reveille Energy. He also serves as co-chairperson of the Biomass Global Associates Forum and is an expert adviser with the Indian Biogas Association. He also acts as an adviser to select bioenergy companies, mentors startups, and serves as adjunct professor at Rashtriya Raksha University. An erstwhile officer of the Indian armed forces he has in the past also served as COO of a renewable energy company and as chief business officer of an aerospace company and a leading logistics company. He has played a key role in policy advocacy, promoting bioenergy at the national and global levels.
As the founder of Reveille Energy and having worked extensively in the upstream bioenergy sector, Dev actively interacts with farmers and stakeholders at the grassroots level, acquiring substantial experience and learnings in the field. “The thrill of doing more for the rural belt with a view to slow down the rate of rural-to-urban migration, based on holistic development, excites me the most,” says Dev.
A key and critical challenge at the macro level, Dev believes, is bringing energy security and related matters within the sole ambit of the central government. This would give an impetus to global investments and attract technology players and other stakeholders.
Dev’s management style is “directive”, and is characterised by clarity of thought at the management level to make decisions and guide others to come up with out-of-the-box solutions. “This creates an atmosphere where all stakeholders and employees can work through problems with ease and without supervision,” he says.
Dev has a keen interest in education and aims to establish a neo-thought kindergarten school in the coming decade. He wants to enable entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises to scale up in the bioenergy space, and support start-ups. He also plans to develop an e-marketplace focused on rural economies, a project that is close to his heart. Dev likes to contribute to associations such as the Indian Federation for Green Energy and the Indian Biogas Association. In his free time, he engages in writing and debating on geopolitics, defence and socio-economic issues, besides social media influencing, consulting on defence logistics, travelling, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Dev has a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and Military Warfare from the National Defence Academy and a postgraduate degree in Operational Art and Strategic Thinking.
