The largest renewable energy infrastructure investment trust (InvIT), Sustainable Energy Infra Trust (SEIT), in India has received an investment of Rs 4.86 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The InvIT possesses eight operational solar power generation assets with a total capacity of 1.54 GWp, spread across various locations in India. Mahindra Susten Private Limited and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan are joint sponsors of SEIT.
AIIB seeks to promote the growth of InvITs as a recognised infrastructure asset class in India. The successful listing of SEIT enhances the track record of capital raising and serves as evidence of establishing and validating InvITs as a sustainable long-term financing avenue in India. Through backing the establishment of SEIT, the sponsors will have a means to realise returns on investments in income-generating infrastructure assets, releasing essential capital to pursue their ambitious growth strategy for creating new renewable energy assets.
