NHPC inks MoU with GPCL for Kuppa pumped hydro storage project

NHPC Limited and Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) have signed an MoU to invest in the envisioned 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project. Located in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat, NHPC is set to contribute approximately Rs 40 billion in the planned project.

NHPC and the Government of Gujarat aim to develop and install pumped hydro storage projects as a viable energy storage solution. The execution of this initiative is anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities and enhance the local economy.

In November 2023, Avaada Energy won 1,400 MW DC solar project from NHPC Limited at a tariff of Rs 2.53 per kWh.

In the same month, NHPC declared winners of its auction to set up 3 GW of interstate transmission system-connected solar power projects. The lowest bid of Rs 2.52 per kWh was quoted by Solairedirect Energy (ENGIE) that went on to win 250 MW. All the other seven winning bids were at Rs 2.53 per kWh. Avaada Energy secured the largest capacity of 1 GW followed by Jakson Limited with 400 MW. Other winners included Green Infra Wind Energy (300 MW), Mahindra arm Hazel Hybren (300 MW), Apraava Energy (250 MW), Hinduja Renewable Energy (250 MW) and Sprng Energy (250 MW).
