CIP collaborates with Mexican authorities on a green hydrogen project

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has announced its plans to develop Helax Istmo, a green hydrogen and green maritime fuels project in Mexico. The said project will be developed through CIP’s Growth Markets Funds II and Energy Transition Fund I, and will be set up in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca.

Helax Istmo of Helax is a wholly owned subsidiary of funds managed by CIP, and this entity has signed an agreement with the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and Mexico’s national Ministry of Navy, the Secretaría de Marina for the green hydrogen project. These parties will collaborate for the development of a large-scale, integrated renewable energy project in Oaxaca. Helax Istmo will produce green hydrogen and green maritime fuels that will help decarbonise the shipping industry.

In November 2023, CIP on behalf of Murchison Hydrogen Renewables Pty Ltd selected thyssenkrupp Uhde, in partnership with DL E&C and its affiliate CARBONCO to provide a pre-FEED to assist the development of the giga-watt-scale Murchison green ammonia project in Kalbarri, Western Australia. The initiative will produce green hydrogen and green ammonia using onshore wind and solar energy.
