GreenH and Medha Servo sign contract to develop a hydrogen production and refueling station

A joint venture between H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies and GR Promoter Group, GreenH Electrolysis has announced that it signed a contract with Medha Servo Drives in October 2023 to develop a hydrogen production and refueling station. To be located in Jind, Haryana, the objective is to provide hydrogen for India’s inaugural hydrogen-powered train as part of the ‘Hydrogen for Heritage’ initiative by Indian Railways. In order to meet its net zero emissions target, Medha Servo Drives has secured a contract from Indian Railways for a pilot project to convert a diesel-powered electric multiple unit rake on the Sonipat-Jind stretch to a hydrogen-powered train. Consequently, Medha has entered into a contract with GreenH to handle the engineering, procurement, and construction responsibilities for this project.

GreenH is set to supply the required equipment from its recently established PEM electrolyser production facility located in the Jhajjar district of Haryana. The hydrogen production and refueling facility is anticipated to implement an integrated system for the daily generation of hydrogen as well as the refueling of trains. In the initial phase, a 1 MW electrolyser provided by GreenH will run round-the-clock, aimimg to produce approximately 420 kg per day of hydrogen. The refueling system is anticipated to incorporate a hydrogen storage capacity of 3,000 kg, along with hydrogen compressors and two hydrogen dispensers featuring pre-cooler integration.

This configuration enables swift refueling of trains, tailored to their daily routes. The hydrogen production and refueling station are envisioned as a turn-key solution, encompassing all technical aspects, including, process, electrical, instrumentation and control, safety, among others. Additionally, it will offer extensive support to the end user through a long-term service agreement, covering operational and maintenance needs.
