STL collaborates with Hygenco in green hydrogen space

Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) has signed a long-term agreement with Hygenco in green hydrogen space. Under the partnership, Hygenco will build, own, operate the green hydrogen plant for a period of 20 years. The facility will be located in Maharashtra and green hydrogen and oxygen will be delivered to STL’s facility situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

This facility will rely on clean energy sources and is scheduled to be completed in the upcoming 15-18 months. The project will mark the beginning of the first operational green hydrogen production facility in the state. Through this project STL will become world’s first optical fiber manufacturer to completely utilise green hydrogen in its operations. This project is in line with STL’s strategic goals of reaching a net-zero emissions status by 2030.

In August 2022, Hygenco signed a long-term green hydrogen offtake agreement with Jindal Stainless Limited. The company would be responsible to build, own, and operate a multi-megawatt green hydrogen facility for 20 years under the terms of the agreement.
