CPS Energy, a San Antonio’s municipally-owned utility, has released proposals to seek contracts for up to 500 MW of energy storage projects as part of a latest approved plan to reinforce its power generation. Reportedly, the company issued a request for proposals (RfP) this week and is awaiting proposals for both large scale and smaller sized schemes. The smaller projects will be situated at different locations within its service area.
Furthermore, the electric and natural gas utility estimated that the power discharged from the contracted energy storage facilities will be sufficient to supply around 100,000 homes. Submissions will be received by October 18. The RfP is the first call for proposals that CPS issues for initiatives involving independent battery energy storage.
In August 2023, SUSI Partners along with its joint venture partner SMT Energy, signed a tax equity financing agreement for a 100 MW battery storage portfolio in Texas, US. SUSI secured the funding from Greenprint Capital on behalf of the SUSI Energy Transition Fund.
