BHEL issues tender for 300 MW floating solar project in Odisha

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has issued request for proposal (RfP) to design, supply, and assemble a floating system together with anchor and mooring parts for a 300 MW floating solar project. The project will be located at Rengali reservoir in Angul district, Odisha. The power produced from the project will be evacuated to Rengali’s 400/200 kV substation, which is located around 1.3 km from the reservoir.

According to the tender guidelines, bidders are required to look after operations and maintenance (O&M) for a period of five years. After the completion of O&M period, the bidders are required to offer an additional five years annual maintenance contract. Bidders are also required to submit performance bank guarantee equal to 3 per cent of the total contract value. Furthermore, in order to qualify, the bidder must have completed building minimum one 5 MW floating solar photovoltaic power project. The project must remain in operation for at least six months from its date of commissioning. The last date for bid submission is September 4, 2023.

In June 2023, BHEL awarded Hyderabad-based Jayram Industries India Private Limited a 19-month contract for O&M of a 65 MW solar power project in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu. BHEL issued a tender for the project, which is owned by NLC India in May 2023.

In April 2023, BHEL announced its venture in the green hydrogen segment. The company intended to hire a business consultant to help it capitalise on possible prospects in electrolyser production and the green hydrogen value chain.
