NHPC signs a MoU with APGENCO for renewable energy and PSP projects in Andhra Pradesh

A MoU has been signed between NHPC Limited and Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) for setting up renewable energy and pumped hydro storage projects. The projects will be located in Andhra Pradesh.

As per the notification, the two pumped hydro storage projects aggregating 1,950 MW will be installed with varying capacities:  Kamlapadu-950 MW and Yaganti-1,000 MW. Furthermore, the MoU intends to utilise energy storage solutions in the form of pumped storage projects (PSPs) to achieve country’s objective of clean energy by achieving 500 GW of installed power from renewable and nuclear sources by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2070. NHPC has 25 power plants with a total installed capacity of 7,097.2 MW of clean energy including 1,520 MW through subsidiaries.

Recently, in August 2023, A MoU was signed between NHPC Limited and RITES to build railway siding for Dibang’s multipurpose project. The MoU envisages setting up NHPC’s 2,800 MW project at Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh.

In June 2023, NHPC Limited signed a MoU with GRIDCO Odisha for development of pumped storage projects and renewable energy in Odisha. The MoU envisages setting up self-identified pumped storage projects of at least 2,000 MW and renewable energy projects of at least 1,000 MW in the state.
