NTPC Limited announced that it is establishing a hydrogen fuelling station, a solar power plant, and will be delivering 5 fuel cell buses to be operated in Leh’s intracity routes. The aforementioned initiatives has been implemented in an effort to achieve a carbon-neutrality in Ladakh.
After processes of field trials, roadworthiness checks and other legal requirements for three months the first hydrogen bus was stationed in Leh on August 17,2023.
At 11,562 feet, the green hydrogen mobility project is implemented alongside a 1.7 MW solar power plant that is specifically intended to provide green energy. The fuel cell buses are built for usage in the sub-zero temperatures and rarefied atmosphere. With several initiatives like hydrogen blending, carbon capture, electric buses, smart NTPC townships amongst others, NTPC intends to reach 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
Recently, in August 2023, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) secured an 80 MW floating solar project at a tariff of Rs 3.8 per kWh. The project is situated in Omkareshwar Reservoir, Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
In the same month, NTPC REL issued a request for proposal for setting up inter-state transmission system connected wind power projects for a capacity of 110 MW at Khavda renewable energy park, Gujarat.
